|GUILD Consignment Continues to Serve|
The Consignment Center staff convened on Wednesday, November 18, to consider the current needs of local organizations. Although business has not been conducted since March, the early months of the 2019-20 season were bountiful for us, and we determined to use our gains to benefit agencies who are working to maintain ministries in difficult times.
Our volunteers voted with consensus to make contributions to the HCC General Fund, local food pantries in both Weymouth and Hull, First Baptist Church of Hingham (for military care package postage costs), Hingham Girl Scout House (for ADA toilet and WiFi updates), and the New England Wildlife Center. As both Wellspring and Cardinal Cushing were in the process of expanding new ventures, we were able to assist each agency with in-kind contributions of donated merchandise. Wellspring was glad to receive linens and kitchen ware needed by families in Hull and also general household items for their new shop in Weymouth. Quality clothing, accessories, and home décor are supplementing inventory being prepared by workers at the Cardinal Cushing Center for their Marketplace in Hanover. A large selection of children’s and teen clothing has been delivered to Catie’s Closet, a resource for families housing foster children and students in need. Sadly, we will not be able to host Giving Twice this year, and will miss the excitement that our Sunday School classes bring each December. For alternative ways to “give twice”, watch for The Marketplace’s grand opening in December and keep your eye on these websites (wellspringmultiservice.org; cushingcenters.org) for specific store hours and locations. In Advent we wait, with anticipation, for new possibilities.
